Latin name: Folium Arctostaphyli Uvae ursi (Ericaceae)

Intended use: 

• Urinary tract: used for bladder and urethral infections. The high concentration of arbutin in the herb has a powerful antimicrobial action which helps to reduce inflammation and relieve the condition of cystitis, painful and frequent urination. It can also be used for urinary incontinence (uncontrolled leakage of urine) by constricting and tightening the mucous membranes, but also reducing susceptibility to infection. A natural diuretic used to expel fluids from the body, it reduces swelling and lowers the risk of pathogenic organisms.

• Kidneys: the herb contains phenolic glycosides, arbutin, and methylarbutin, which have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic actions and prevent the formation of grit and stones in the kidneys, the breakdown and expulsion of those already formed. It also helps to reduce their size, making it possible to pass them through the urinary tract along with the urine.

• Gastrointestinal health: the antibacterial properties of bearberries inhibit the activity of bacteria such as E-coli and Proteus-vulgaris, as well as some strains of staphylococcus bacteria, thus protecting against and helping to prevent intestinal infections. The high tannin content is also effective in the treatment of diarrhea.

Internal use:  1-2 tbsp 3-4 times a day; recommended to be taken with 1 teaspoon of baking soda (amplifies the action.)
 
Preparation: 2 tablespoons of the herb poured in 1/2 liters of cold water, soak 24 hours, boil for 5 min., strain and drink after cooling.
 
Note: The herb irritating the uterine muscle and it is not recommended during pregnancy!
In large doses causes exacerbation of inflammatory changes and induce vomiting.
